Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

As a skilled tradesman, carry out repair and maintenance work on main propulsion shafting, propellers, thrusters, rudders, and steering machinery as assigned by the Supervisor-in-Charge, while consistently maintaining safe working practices and ensuring compliance with the Company’s quality, environmental, occupational health and safety, supply chain security, and information security management systems, in accordance with recognized industry standards and the Company’s QEHS and ISSC manuals and policies.

  • Skillfully repair and overhaul items of ships main Propulsion Shafting, Propellers Thrusters, Rudders,

Steering machinery and other equipment in accordance with customers specifications and as directed by

the Supervisor in-charge.

  • Take and record all important sizes to determine acceptable minimum/excess limits of clearance. Present

readings to Supervisor in-charge pointing out any discrepancies.

  • Assist the Supervisor in-charge/Work Preparator to determine any spare part requirements.

  • Arrange items of consumable materials e.g. nuts / bolts / gaskets for reassembling items.

  • Perform any reasonable duty considered within the individual’s ability as instructed by the Supervisor in

charge.

charge Observe the Company’s Quality Control Procedures and maintain acceptable working standards.

  • To ensure an acceptable ISO standards of Quality, Environmental, OHSMS and Security Management

System and American Petroleum Institute (API) Q1 are maintained in accordance with recognized working

practices and the Company’s QEHS&S Manual and Policy.

  • To ensure safe working practices are maintained at all times.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the superior.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Completion of secondary school or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as Mechanical Fitter (Rudder and Propeller) in a Ship Repair

Establishment.

  • in ship repair industry or similar industry.

  • To have experience in rigging and moving heavy items of equipment.

    • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

    • Ability to deal with people at all levels.

    • Flexible team-player who easily adapts to an ever-changing environment.

    • Ability to follow directions accurately.

    • Proactive, positive and a high sense of responsibility.

    • Honest, respectful, and trustworthy.

    • Ability to solve problems at workplace.

    • Familiarity working with various tools and equipment.

    • Good command in English language (written & spoken).
