Job title Principal Reservoir Engineering
Stream: Commercial
Function: Investment Valuations & Strategy
Location: Oman Muscat

Reporting to: Manager, Production Engineering
Job purpose :
Provide subject matter expertise in Reservoir Engineering to support investment valuations, subsurface assessments, and strategic decision-making within the Commercial function. The role delivers authoritative technical input into asset evaluations, opportunity screening, and portfolio analysis by applying advanced reservoir engineering knowledge to economic and commercial frameworks.
The position will act in accordance with the OQEP s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, QHSE & Energy Management System requirements standards, Omani s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Provide expert reservoir engineering input to support investment valuations, asset acquisitions, divestments, and farm-in/farm-out evaluations within the Commercial function.
Lead subsurface technical assessments including reserves and resources estimation, production forecasting, and field performance analysis in support of commercial transactions and portfolio reviews.
Conduct and quality-assure reservoir simulation studies, material balance analyses, and decline curve analyses to underpin volumetric and economic evaluations.
Provide independent technical review and challenge of subsurface assumptions used in investment cases, business development notes, and project initiation notes.
Support due diligence processes for upstream opportunities, including data room visits and technical assessment of third-party assets.
Collaborate with the Economics & Planning function to integrate subsurface uncertainty ranges into economic models, sensitivity analyses, and risk-weighted valuations.
Develop and maintain reservoir engineering standards, tools, and workflows relevant to the Commercial function's investment evaluation process.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers within the team.
Represent OQEP in technical forums, joint venture meetings, and partner discussions on reservoir engineering matters as required.
Liaise with operated and non-operated asset teams to gather subsurface data and validate technical assumptions used in commercial evaluations.
Contribute to the preparation of investment proposals, executive summaries, and board-level presentations related to upstream opportunities.
Ensure all technical evaluations and reports are documented in accordance with company Data Management Standards.
Support the continuous improvement of valuation methodologies and best practices within the Investment Valuations & Strategy function.
Actively participate in and promote OQEP's HSE culture, ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with HSE policies, procedures, and targets.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Key interactions:
Internal: Exploration function, Business Development function, Economics & Planning function, Finance function, Legal function, Operated Assets teams, Non-Operated Assets / Joint Ventures function.
External: Joint Venture partners, external consultants and technical advisors, government ministries, regulatory bodies.
Notable Working Conditions. Office environment, intensive computer screen use, sporadic visits to operation sites and data rooms.
Education requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or related engineering discipline Required
Postgraduate qualification (MSc or PhD in Petroleum/Reservoir Engineering) or professional certification (SPE membership, Certified Petroleum Engineer) Preferred
Language requirements :Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required) | Arabic - Native (desirable)
Background and experience:
Minimum 10+ years of reservoir engineering experience with an upstream oil & gas operator or consultancy. Preferred experience with upstream investments, VDRs, Commercial and Business Development Interface. Local and international exposure with various environments and hydrocarbon fields settings.
Proven experience in reserves estimation and reporting in accordance with PRMS/SPE standards.
Strong background in reservoir simulation, production forecasting, and material balance techniques.
Experience in subsurface technical evaluations for commercial transactions (acquisitions, divestments, farm-ins, JVs).
Familiarity with Oman's upstream regulatory environment and concession/EPSA framework is an advantage.
Experience working in multidisciplinary teams alongside geoscientists, economists, and commercial professionals.
Track record of delivering technical evaluations under tight commercial deadlines.
