Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor specializing in steel structures plays a crucial role in the construction industry, managing all aspects of cost consultation and financial supervision throughout a project's lifecycle. This professional is engaged from the initial proposal through to final execution, ensuring the financial feasibility and cost-effectiveness of building projects that incorporate steel frameworks. The task includes preparing cost estimates and budgets, overseeing contract administration, and ensuring compliance with statutory building regulations and safety standards. A keen eye for detail, extensive knowledge in steel construction, and strong negotiation skills are essential for managing supplier and subcontractor contracts efficiently. The role also entails collaborating closely with architects, engineers, and contractors to deliver projects within budget, on time, and to the desired quality standards.


Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed budgetary assessments and financial forecasts accurately for steel structure projects.
  • Monitor and control all project costs against original budget to minimize overspend.
  • Conduct cost analyses comparing actual performance with forecasted expectations regularly.
  • Negotiate contracts and amendments with suppliers and subcontractors effectively.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective cost control systems and procedures.
  • Coordinate with engineers and architects to ensure alignment on project budget aspects.
  • Review and approve payment applications and variations ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide regular reports on financial progress to stakeholders and project managers.
  • Ensure all work adheres to relevant building regulations and safety standards compliance.
  • Assist in the resolution of contract disputes and claims efficiently.
  • Prepare lifecycle costing models and risk analyses for long-term project viability.
  • Facilitate training and support for project staff on cost management and quality assurance.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience specifically in steel structure projects.
  • Proven expertise in cost estimation, budgeting, and financial management skills.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies and project management principles.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in relevant software like AutoCAD, CostX, and MS Office Suite.
  • Certified professional or member of professional body will be an advantage.
