Job Purpose

The Railway Production Engineer supports the localization program by validating locally manufactured spare parts and special tools, coordinating fabrication and repair activities with approved machining workshops, and ensuring technical, quality, cost, and delivery compliance.

The role is responsible for defining manufacturing and repair methods, preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and monitoring fabrication and repair work orders through Maximo. The position ensures that all localized, fabricated, or repaired mechanical components are properly inspected, validated, tested, documented, and submitted for approval for operational use in accordance with railway standards.

Profile

Responsibilities/Duties

Localization Program Support

Identify spare parts, tools, and assemblies suitable for localization through local manufacturing or repair.

Support localization initiatives in coordination with Engineering, Procurement and Maintenance.

Review and clarify drawings, specifications, tolerances, and technical requirements for localized components.

Support reverse engineering activities where required to enable local fabrication.

Fabrication of Spare Parts & Special Tools

Plan, coordinate, and oversee fabrication of spare parts and special tools, including jigs, fixtures, gauges, and lifting devices.

Define manufacturing processes, routing, machining steps, and work instructions.

Provide technical support during machining, fabrication, assembly, and finishing activities.

Ensure manufacturability, repeatability, and compliance with safety and quality requirements.

Mechanical Repair & Reconditioning Works

Supervise and support mechanical repair and reconditioning of parts and assemblies.

Prepare repair procedures, tolerances, acceptance criteria, and inspection requirements.

Coordinate machining, welding, surface treatment, heat treatment, and reassembly activities.

Ensure repaired parts meet functional, safety, and quality requirements before release.

Coordination with Machining Workshops

Coordinate fabrication and repair activities with approved local machining workshops.

Act as the technical interface with El-Salam Machining Workshop for fabrication, repair, and rework activities.

Ensure workshops receive complete and approved drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.

Monitor progress, quality, delivery timelines, and compliance of outsourced machining works.

Support inspections, trials, and first-article approvals at workshop level.

Costing & Bill of Quantities (BOQ)

Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for fabricated, repaired, and localized mechanical components.

Estimate material, machining, labor, and processing costs.

Support procurement and management in technical cost evaluation and budget control.

Track actual costs versus estimates and support cost-reduction and optimization initiatives.

Quality Assurance & Technical Compliance

Ensure all fabricated and repaired parts comply with approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

Coordinate dimensional inspections, measurements, and quality checks.

Support root cause analysis and corrective actions related to manufacturing or repair deviations.

Ensure traceability of materials, processes, and inspection records.
