Research Assistant - Chemical Engineering

Department of Chemical Engineering:

The Department of Chemical Engineering is seeking applications for one part-time Research Assistant position in Chemical Engineering, with expertise in (1) Process Engineering and/or (2) Food Engineering.

This role is part of a funded research project titled Decontamination and Detoxification of Solid Foods Using Advanced Techniques supported by a Research Grant from the University of Balamand (UOB). The project aims to develop efficient and sustainable methods to ensure food safety by reducing contaminants and toxins in solid food matrices while maintaining product quality and minimizing environmental impact.

The position is for a duration of one year, during which the Research Assistant will be involved in laboratory-scale experimentation, analytical and microbial testing, data analysis and paper drafting. The work will contribute to advancing sustainable process solutions for food decontamination and safety assurance.

General Duties

• Conduct laboratory experiments related to food decontamination and detoxification processes
• Perform analytical and microbial testing, collect and analyze data, and maintain detailed research records
• Support the preparation of articles, progress reports, manuscripts, and technical documentation
• Participate in group meetings and contribute to project planning and result interpretation
• Collaborate effectively with faculty members and research partners
• Adhere to safety standards and ethical research practices within the Department of Chemical Engineering
• Contribute to the overall research objectives of the Faculty of Engineering
• Maintain continuous professional development and demonstrate initiative and enthusiasm in assigned tasks

Specific Responsibilities

• Conduct scientific experiments
• Conduct scientific literature reviews
• Summarize project results
• Prepare articles, reports, and presentations
• Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned
