Roles & Responsibilities
Due to expansion, applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals who are passionate and forward thinking and who will thrive in the vibrant learning environment of Hartland. By being ambitious, not only for students but for yourself, you will help us build and maintain a successful programme of study in business and economics by sharing in the responsibility for teaching, learning, enrichment and pastoral care. The successful candidate will also be expected to make a contribution to our unique and strong enrichment programme which ensures that learning and opportunity are diverse for all.
The department runs successful IGCSE, International A-Level and BTEC Level-3 courses in both business and economics, creating innovative learning opportunities and enabling students to develop real-world understanding to enhance their knowledge and skills.
Both business and economics are offered at GCSE and A-Level, following the Edexcel International (IGCSE and IAL) curriculum. The department consistently delivers exceptional outcomes, with students achieving excellent examination results each year. A-Level Economics has maintained a minimum record of 100% A* - C annually, while A-Level Business achieved an impressive 91% A* - D in 2025. At IGCSE, both business and economics achieved exceptional results in 2025, with 100% of students attaining grades 9 - 5. Finally, BTEC Business International Level 3 maintains excellent outcomes of 100% D* - M each year.
As a department and a school, we believe that students benefit immensely from additional opportunities for learning. We, therefore, also coordinate, for example, external speakers and workshops in the area of financial management, talks with relevant Universities such as the London School of Economics, as well as running a Dragons Den competition each year and a very successful business enterprise day.
As such, we are seeking to recruit a candidate who will contribute meaningfully to continued success and dynamic offerings of the department.
The successful candidate will:
- Hold a relevant degree and teaching qualification
- Have experience of teaching business and/or economics in the UK or in an international setting at GCSE and/or A-level
- Experience teaching BTEC would also be an advantage but not a requirement
- Have a minimum two years teaching experience
- Have exceptional communication skills
- Be committed to the Hartland Values which can be found on our website
