Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of vegetable crop production, from seed selection to harvest, ensuring optimal yields and quality.
- Develop and implement detailed crop plans, including planting schedules, irrigation strategies, and pest management programs, to maximize efficiency.
- Manage and train a team of farmworkers, providing clear instructions and fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Monitor crop health regularly, identifying and addressing any issues such as disease, pests, or nutrient deficiencies promptly.
- Implement and maintain sustainable farming practices, such as crop rotation, cover cropping, and integrated pest management.
- Manage the farm budget, track expenses, and identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve profitability.
- Coordinate with sales and marketing teams to ensure timely harvesting and delivery of produce to meet market demands.
- Stay informed about the latest advancements in vegetable production techniques and technologies, and implement them as appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety regulations and environmental standards, maintaining accurate records.
Desired Candidate Profile
- A Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field is highly preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in vegetable production, with demonstrated success in a management role.
- Strong knowledge of plant physiology, soil science, and pest management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in using farm management software and data analysis tools.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, with physical stamina to handle manual labor.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of other languages is an asset.
