Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all corn milling operations to achieve production targets, yields, and quality specifications.

  • Ensure optimal extraction rates and consistent quality of corn products including grits, meal, and flour.

  • Optimize production scheduling and resource utilization.

  • Conduct daily monitoring and adjustment of mill settings to ensure maximum efficiency and minimal losses.

  • Supervise cleaning, conditioning, degermination, grinding, sifting, and classification processes.

  • Perform daily checks of product streams, granulation, and equipment performance.

  • Implement and supervise the integrated pest management (IPM) program and pest control measures.

  • Prioritize and coordinate maintenance activities to minimize downtime.

  • Manage corn raw material and finished product bin inventories.

  • Establish, implement, and continuously improve food safety policies and procedures (HACCP, GMP).

  • Ensure compliance with all local safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and identify opportunities to introduce new technologies and process enhancements.

  • Implement, maintain, and improve the company’s operations manual.

  • Prepare and submit accurate production and inventory reports to the Accounting department.

  • Train production staff and ensure ongoing professional development and performance follow-up.

  • Control and manage inventories of additives, bags, spare parts, fuel, water, tools, and consumables.

  • Oversee ordering and stock control of all operational goods and materials for the mill (excluding raw corn).

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Milling degree preferred or accredited certification in Milling Sciences or Grain Processing.

  • Corn mill experience is mandatory; additional experience in wheat milling is considered a plus

  • Minimum of 5 years’ proven experience in corn (maize) milling as a Head/Chief Miller or similar senior role.

  • Strong technical knowledge of dry corn milling processes, including yield optimization and granulation control.

  • Experience with corn quality evaluation (moisture, hardness, defects) and its impact on milling performance.

  • Hands-on experience with quality control testing such as particle size distribution, moisture, fat, ash, and color.

  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with HACCP principles and food safety systems implementation.

  • Wheat milling and flour analysis experience is considered a strong advantage, including the ability to interpret flour and dough analyses relative to end-product quality.

  • Fluency in English is required.

  • Experience working in developing countries is preferred.

  • Ability to work flexible or irregular hours based on production demands.

  • Field-based role suited to a dynamic and motivated individual.

  • Good physical health required due to the operational and sometimes remote nature of the site.

  • Expatriate candidates must be adaptable and capable of working outside their normal comfort zone.

  • Travel requirements are minimal.
