Job Description Responsibilities Prepare and serve specialty coffee drinks, including espresso-based beverages, brewed coffee, cold brews, and other creative coffee drinks, to the highest quality standards. Maintain a detailed understanding of different coffee beans, roast profiles, and origins to craft customized drinks that cater to guest preferences. Create latte art, cappuccino foam designs, and other visual elements to enhance the presentation of drinks. Maintain consistency and precision in drink preparation, ensuring every cup meets the standards of the specialty coffee shop. Greet and engage customers with warmth and professionalism, answering questions about the menu, coffee offerings, and brewing methods. Offer personalized recommendations based on guest preferences, educating them about different types of coffee beans, brewing techniques, and drink options. Take and fulfil customer orders promptly, ensuring a positive and efficient coffee experience. Handle any customer complaints or concerns in a friendly and professional manner, ensuring guest satisfaction. Stay informed about new trends in the coffee industry, including emerging coffee varieties, brewing techniques, and innovations in coffee culture. Operate coffee machines, grinders, and other specialty equipment with precision and care to ensure optimal performance and consistent drink quality. Regularly clean, maintain, and troubleshoot espresso machines, grinders, blenders, and other tools to ensure they are functioning at their best and in accordance with health and safety regulations. Perform routine checks on inventory, ensuring that coffee beans, syrups, milk alternatives, and other supplies are stocked and prepared for daily operations. Keep the barista station and surrounding area clean, organized, and well-stocked, including organizing cups, napkins, and other supplies for quick access. Clean and sanitize all areas of the coffee station, as well as customer-facing areas like counters and tables, to maintain a welcoming and hygienic environment. Monitor the caf environment to ensure that it remains comfortable, with appropriate lighting, temperature, and ambiance for guests. Track inventory of coffee beans, milk, syrups, and other ingredients, notifying management when supplies are low or when new orders are needed. Assist in organizing and maintaining storage areas, ensuring that coffee beans are stored properly to preserve their freshness and quality. Provide support to colleagues during peak hours, helping with orders, cleaning, or stocking supplies. Perform any other duties or responsibilities as assigned by management to support the effective operation of the department and the broader goals of the property.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Proven experience as a barista, particularly in a specialty coffee environment, with a focus on crafting high-quality, artisan coffee beverages.
- In-depth knowledge of coffee beans, brewing techniques, and espresso-based drinks.
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to engage and educate guests about coffee and related products.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- A passion for coffee, innovation, and providing a superior customer experience.
- Ability to stand for long periods during shifts.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items, such as bags of coffee beans or equipment, up to [X] pounds.
- Ability to work with and operate hot equipment (e.g., espresso machines, coffee grinders, milk frothers) safely.
