WE are looking for an experienced College and Careers Counsellor to join as soon as possible.
The College & Careers Counsellor collaborates with key personnel in supporting Grade 6-12 students through career development, college search and ultimately, the application process. The incumbent s work ethic should be consistent with the school s vison, mission and belief statements and focused on supporting and encouraging students success and overall wellbeing. This position also requires the facilitation of college preparation courses, and course planning.
The College & Careers Counsellor also works in close collaboration with SLT and other members of Dubai International Academy s learning community to provide comprehensive support and counselling.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Individual Student Support
Preparing high school students and their families for course selection, college, career, and the university admissions process
Providing individual Personal, Academic, and Career counselling
Supporting the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in developing effective, pro-active systems of communication and support with parents and students regarding the college admissions process
Interpreting assessments to identify student needs and develop interventions
Write evaluations and letters of recommendation in support of student applications
Being responsive to student needs, walk-ins, referrals, and crisis situations
Contributing to academic and/or behavioural student monitoring meetings in a supportive, non-disciplinary role
Support students through the college application process, inclusive of monitoring applications, reviewing essays and written work, providing comprehensive academic advising, and connecting students with best-fit institutions
General Guidance Support
Collaborate with the SLT to develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive school Career & College counselling program
Help plan and deliver student transition programming
Planning, keeping records, and preparing reports for the college counselling office
Coordinating college visits and college fairs
Preparing and delivering school forms to colleges
Articulating academic policy determined by the SLT in regard to courses, credits, and graduation requirements
Providing consultation and in-service training for parents, teachers, and staff
Advising students on standardised testing: SAT, ACT, LNAT, etc
Non-Counselling Duties
Participating in school committees and activities
NOTE:
This position will require work outside of normal school working days and hours.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Minimum of 2 years of counselling or college admissions experience
Strong familiarity with UK & US admissions counselling
Bachelors degree
Fluency and accuracy in written and spoken English
Computer skills at a level that permits record keeping and application support
Proven ability to work effectively in a team
Strong interpersonal, organisational and public speaking skills
